Department Goals

Students will:

  • Show an appreciation for and understanding of other people and cultures.
  • Read and communicate in the target language.
  • Translate target language readings into English.
  • Discuss differences between their own culture and the target language culture.
  • Participate in multi-lingual communities at home and around the world in ways that are varied and culturally appropriate.
  • Compare and contrast their own language structure with the target language structure
  • Apply their knowledge of technology to classroom activities and assignments and to enhance their foreign language education.
  • Incorporate the reading of a variety of literature in the language and about the culture in order to understand the cultural context in which the language occurs and recognize that there are multiple ways of viewing the world.
  • Apply knowledge gained in the target language to other aspects of the areas of curriculum and in their lives outside of school.
  • Compare and contrast the religious customs and beliefs of the target culture with their own beliefs.
