St. Vincent de Paul Service Mission Workshop

Every year on September 27, the feast of St. Vincent de Paul—the Apostle of Charity, Trinity hosts a Service-Mission workshop to launch our service and mission efforts for the year. The purpose of the program is to put a face to those we seek to serve, to celebrate Trinity's accomplishments, and to renew ourselves for living our commitment to others for the coming year.

This year's program was hosted by Skylar Allen representing the Mission Team, Aaron Johnson representing Campus Ministry, and Elizabeth Herr representing the Service Program. Fr. Jerry Morales, C.M., a member of the community of priests founded by St. Vincent and Director of Social Services at Guardian Angel-Hosea House, spoke on the need to be connected with other people, especially the poor and homeless. Fr. Morales explained that this was the legacy of Vincent de Paul, to find the face of Christ in the poor and disadvantaged.

Fr. Morales was accompanied by Rachel and Lisa. Rachel, a former Gateway Vincentian Volunteer, is currently a graduate student in theology at Aquinas Institute and Program Assistant at Guardian Angel-Hosea House. Lisa, a college graduate, is currently spending a year of volunteer service in the Gateway Vincentian Volunteers program. Both Lisa and Rachel shared with us their experiences of working with the poor and homeless and the impact that this has had on their personal lives.

The final presenter for the day was Kyle Klostermann, a local youth minister and former affiliate of the REAP Team. Kyle's energetic and interactive presentation celebrated the opportunities the Trinity community has to life our faith, touch people's lives, and make a difference in our world.
