Diversity Club

Jesus said, in no uncertain terms, whatever we do to the least of His brothers and sisters, we do to Him.   Jesus welcomed ALL….including those that were marginalized by society.   The apostles and disciples were quite diverse, but Jesus invited the ALL to “come follow me”.   He accepted them, wherever they were on life’s journey, even before he issued the invitation!  Can we do any less?

The family at Trinity Catholic High School are ALL invited to and welcomed at the Diversity Club.    We come from a variety of ethnic or racial backgrounds.  Some have different religious traditions.  Some have a different socio-economic status.  We come from “traditional families”, single parent families, “step-families”.  Some have a different sexual orientation.  Some have athletic ability; others have talents in the arts.

The Diversity Club gives students a chance to learn about and celebrate the diversity at TCHS.

Diversity Club Events:

In September, the Diversity Club held a discussion on religious diversity with an emphasis on the Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Honoring the memory of Matthew Shepherd on the 9th anniversary of his death, in October the Diversity Club sponsored a celebration of those values Matthew stood for:  compassion, understanding, acceptance.

In November, Native American music was played prior to the stat of the school day in celebration of Native American History Month.

MIX-IT-UP LUNCH--November 13 is a national celebration and a simple call to action:  take a new seat in the cafeteria.  By making the move, students can cross the lines of division, meet new people and make new friends.  Participation was voluntary for the student body and faculty.  Instead of sitting with their usual group of friends, table seating was assigned based on birth month.

January 11--In response to the USCCB request to celebrate migration diversity, we are sponsoring an Ethnic/Cultural Pot Luck lunch after the last exam.  Any student/staff who wishes to participate is asked to bring a sampling of food of their ethnic/cultural group.
